As New Year resolvers restock pantries, “natural,” “made with,” and “whole grains” have made the Leanwashing Index’s 2013 list of food marketing words that should be banished to the land of advertising malarkey. The list is inspired by the appearance of “superfood” on Lake Superior State University’s 38th annual List of Words to be Banished.

Studies have shown that Autism and autism-spectrum disorders have profound effects upon both social interactions and sensitivity to sensory stimulation in persons that often make it uncomfortable or impractical for them to turn to other human beings for comfort. In 1965 Temple Grandin, Ph.D.designing the squeeze or hug machine so both she and others could turn to it for sensory relief.

Developmental disabilities are on the increase. There are more than six million special needs children in the U.S., and the ranks continue to grow. Those affected by autism alone grew more than 70% in the last seven years.
